All week has been building up to this design challenge: construct, test, and improve a water filter, just like an environmental engineer would!
First students collected and analyzed scientific data about the materials they would encounter. They judged the success of the materials based on three criteria (1) TIME: it took water to pass through the filter (2) COLOR: of the water (3) PARTICLES: removed from the water
Then students worked first individually and then on teams to plan a unique design.
Finally, they were able to construct and test their filter!
